My work “Rootedness” (pictured above) has been chosen as a finalist for the L’Arche juried show “The Art of Being Together.”  If you are in the Vancouver area, the opening will be next Saturday, March 6th from 1-5 pm.  More details can be found here.  The piece is also eligible for Judges Choice and People’s [...]

in the studio today

For the last two days, I’ve been fighting a cold.  It’s the first time since coming to Vancouver that I’ve gotten a cold– I blame it on the weather going from see-my-own-breath cold to I-can-wear-flip-flops warm.
Regardless, I knew if I wanted to make the most of my break from classes, I had better get in [...]

in the studio today

This is new piece I worked on all day today in the studio.  I attempted to create a pseudo-landscape by using book covers and threaded spines as the land, and a dried hydrangea (resembling a tree) growing out from it.
While I’m content with this piece for now, I hope to push this concept further in [...]

New Year, new aesthetic

2010 looks to be a promising year of growth, artistically.  Judging by the work I produced in the last 2 weeks, my work seems to be heading in a more sculptural direction, and my aesthetic is changing into a more simplified, organic color palette with stylized ink drawings, layered translucent dress patterns, pantyhose and book [...]

second opening for “In the Making” show

This Sunday evening, the Vancouver Project II show “In The Making” will have its second opening at First Baptist Church here in Vancouver.  If you are in the area, I’d recommend coming at 7 pm this Sunday.  There will be a “Celtic Christmas” concert, with an art reception afterwards.  For more about the work and [...]

Illuminated Manuscript
beeswax, rulers, rope light, chicken wire, black ink, text and nylon
10 x 36 [...]

Next week, Regent will be opening the By For residency exhibition “In the Making.”  This is the first opening of the traveling exhibit and all of us (the participating artists) are excited to see all the artwork come together.  The residency [...]

full head and happy heart

I just got back from a conference entirely on encaustic painting.  It was a whirlwind: 36 hours spent in the car with my best friend in the world (other than my husband of course) – Kathryn, and hours and hours and hours of wax madness.  Needless to say, for many reasons, my head is full [...]

For All It’s Worth

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how little I really know about love, grace, truth, beauty, etc.  So I’ve been working on a new series of paintings called For All It’s Worth.  Each painting focuses on a word and several visual elements, interconnected with dotted lines and circles.  It’s crazy to me that I [...]
