One of the perks of being on staff at the Grunewald Guild is being able to participate in lots of art-making. I've been itching to get into the ceramics studio for several months now, but the right opportunity hasn't come up. On Monday night, I finally got my first lesson in wheel throwing and was accompanied by a very special guest: Mary Beth Holladay. MB is my future boss at the Art Factory in Kandern, Germany (another awesome art center). She was visiting family in Seattle and popped over to the Guild for a short, but fun visit!
In a matter of minutes, the lump of clay I started with turned into a bowl. And in the next few weeks, it will be fired and glazed. It is certainly an addicting medium and there is much to be learned still, but I really enjoyed working with clay. I think it's safe to say that I see more ceramics in my future!
