Mapping Portland residency

My experience working with the Portland Children’s Museum was a delightful one!  Each day, new families would come through the museum and engage the materials and the map theme differently.  The suminagashi printing process was an instant hit and the end results were as fascinating as they were striking.

As I learned more about the Portland area, and collected children’s stories and drawings, I began to draw onto plexiglass using a white paint pen as an overlay to the sumi ‘maps.’  The whimsical, open-ended nature of the project made for some wonderful storytelling!
