Lessons from the Hive

| 21 pieces | encaustic, oil paint and paper on hexagon panels | 10' 6" x 4' 3" | 2009

Each of the works is a combination of shredded paper fragments, encaustic, a pencil drawing of a chair or seat, and in some cases, pigment to color the wax. The fragments of paper are from maps, language books, music, etc (all ways we categorize and try to understand the world around us). When I shredded them and put them back together, it was an exercise about finding unity amidst diversity, finding cohesiveness among chaos, deconstructing old ways of seeing the world and reconstructing a new one. It became a sort of day-dreaming about the beauty of the last days when Christ will reconcile all things to himself and when His Church will be made perfect and whole.
