book augenschmaus

It's no secret that I'm obsessed with old books.  Everything about them: the smell, the texture of words, the golden-brown tint of each page, their fragility, their inherent wisdom.  And while much of my artwork actually involves destroying them, I don't take it lightly.  The process of deconstructing them helps me meditate on our culture's tendencies of rabid consumption and sometimes the disregard of old (once cherished) things.  I find beauty in the reconstructive / redemptive process, and it helps me (albeit a strange way) to make sense of the world I find myself in.

That being said, here are some *phenomenal* artists who are seeking to do the same with their use of old books.  I would encourage you to check out their websites so that your eyes could feast on more of the work they have each produced....
